Spiny tail monitors are one of our favourite lizards to keep, and a popular choice for the slightly more advanced keeper.
Originating from Australia the spiny tail monitor (varanus acanthurus) eats exclusively insects when in captivity, but in the wild they will eat smaller lizards and young marsupials.
Growing up to 70 cm they can live between 15 – 20 years and need to be fed daily. Here’s a video of some of our spiny tail monitors.
